Students at the high school level are generally expected to independently manage their own devices. However when needed Eleanor asked students for their FM if they had forgotten to hand to the teacher. For students who did not use assistive listening devices she adjusted her teaching to ensure that they were able to access their learning through Auslan and visually. When presenting in a visual format Eleanor provided additional time for the student to read the information provided before addressing the student in Auslan. Visual presentations were appropriate for the learning and the level of the studnets being taught.

Eleanor was proactive in her approach to working with the students and with their teachers. She approached all the teachers to gauge an understanding of what the students were learning and to ensure that her lessons with the students would support their learning in the classroom. Her understanding of how literacy learning occurs with Deaf and hard of hearing students ensured that the sessions she was teaching met the learning needs of the students- eg pre-teach the vocab, provide links to other areas of learning, provide visual representations, links to Auslan, and provide opportunities for students to use the language.
Eleanor has a sound understanding of how Deaf and hard of hearing students learn. She adapted her teaching style to that of the high school setting. Eleanor's ability to use current practises and research in her approach to planning and developing was also highly evident. She was proactive in her approach to working not only with the students but also with the other staff members in the centre and the the school. Eleanor acted on feedback and adjusted her teaching approach as needed based on this feedback. She was also able to critically analyse her own teaching and could problem solve solutions when the lesson did not achieve the results she had aimed for. Eleanor was well prepared and time managed herself well.
Do you consider that the Student is at risk of failing to achieve “Graduate level” by the end of their overall Practicum experience? No
