Megan was competent in selecting specific goals from the child's IEP and targeting them during her lessons. She was able to break down the aspects of the goals and focus on them despite distractions and other issues that occurred during the sessions.

Megan confidently handled and checked the children's hearing devices and Rogers (WDCs). She had a very effective way of getting the children to talk about their devices by asking them lots of leading questions about the parts of their equipment and their functions. She readily put the children at ease when discussing their equipment and hearing needs.

Megan was able to demonstrate an auditory-verbal approach in her lessons, particularly when using Ling strategies checking listening capabilities with the varied devices the children were using. Megan observed the children in a number of different classroom settings in both the primary and secondary schools. She was particularly observant of when the children were not fully engaged with their classroom teachers and following their lessons. She was also able to note which teachers were more familiar with and effectively using assistive devices and were monitoring the child's ability to 'hear' instructions. Megan did not directly speak to classroom teachers about adjustments as it was not appropriate at the time, however, she was able to discuss her observations and concerns with me, offering suggestions to what adjustments and modifications could be made to the environment and to teaching strategies.
Megan worked hard over this practicum placement, always coming to lessons prepared and full of enthusiasm. Working across both Primary and Secondary settings provides the opportunity to work with children across a range of ages and Megan proved herself to be very adaptable and competent. The children Megan observed and worked individually with were between the ages of 12 and 17, one with additional learning needs. Megan was very good at adjusting her level of vocabulary to suit the needs of each individual child and target conversations at their areas of interest.
Changes in the daily timetable happen regularly and Megan showed flexibility and the ability to quickly problem solve when faced with lessons being rescheduled, other specialists failing to turn up, or the student being absent during their timetabled lesson. At all times Megan was professional and worked to accommodate other teachers and specialists highlighting her ability to work as a team member focusing on providing for the needs of the individual child.
Congratulations Megan on such a successful practicum.
