At high school, students are expected to manage their own hearing devices. None of the students in the class use other hearing technology. Ashley demonstrated knowledge and understanding of various hearing devices and assistive technology in our discussions and supported students in being responsible and independent in their use of assistive hearing devices where appropriate.

Ashley was very conscious of applying professional learning to her lessons. This did not always work for this cohort of students and Ashley was willing to follow the suggestions I gave her and made adjustments to her planned lessons. She reflected on her teaching and the children's responses to her teaching style. As Ashley becomes more familiar with teaching students with a wide range of abilities and prior knowledge I am confident she will adjust her teaching methods accordingly.
Ashley is extremely enthusiastic about the education of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and is very caring towards the students. She has made great progress during this practicum. She has realised that while theory is important, she must consider the students she is teaching-their needs, abilities, disabilities, strengths and weaknesses and that a 'one size fits all' approach will not work. She has realised that the specific learning needs and styles of each student must be considered when planning and that many students may need more time, more specific instruction and more practise to achieve goals. Ashley is a committed professional who strives for the best from herself and her students.
