Donna was very thorough in researching individual needs, backgrounds, learning styles and making appropriate adjustments where necessary. This was particularly well done within the confines of the mainstream curriculum across a variety of subjects, stages and learning contexts.

Donna conducted listening checks before each lesson. Students use a combination of cochlear implants and hearing aids. All refuse to use FM technologies, so unfortunately, this was not available for Donna to manage.
All unit students are independent users and all maintenance is managed at home. Unit keeps spare batteries. Donna recognised absence of hearing aids for one student and ascertained that they did not have spare batteries, so this was able to be remedied and student was able to use hearing aids again. There were no other examples of trouble shooting which occurred in the 10 days.

Donna Reardon is a very professional and proficient teacher. She is very knowledgeable in the theories of supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing and was keen to apply the theory into practice. The Support Unit context is a unique one and presents some challenges for providing consistent practicum experiences. The ever-changing high school environment, teamed with the demands of the mainstream curriculum, as well as providing explicit teaching of English and Maths in the unit classroom, all require flexibility, insightful evaluation and the ability to quickly assess, adapt and reassess. Donna demonstrated all of these requirements in her preparation and execution of lessons with students. The treatment of audition and speech assessment and needs are different for teenagers, compared to pre-school age children and this was an interesting discovery for Donna. She was able to adapt the testing methods to more age appropriate activities and cleverly integrated curriculum content into these activities, for example through item selection.
Donna provided insightful self-evaluation, was open to new discoveries and advice and was willing to work collaboratively to achieve learning goals for each student. She very quickly established rapport with each of our very unique students and was able to engage each one according to their learning needs and I have observed each student making obvious progress in their learning through Donna's teaching. She has inspired me to implement some different approaches to my teaching! Donna will be a wonderful asset to any educational setting.
Do you consider that the Student is at risk of failing to achieve “Graduate level” by the end of their overall Practicum experience? No
