Please provide a comment on the student’s ability to link goals from the Personalised Learning Plan to individual lesson goals and to record specific examples and evaluate the school student’s achievement of the goals.
Additional Comments:

Vanessa has displayed a thorough knowledge of gathering and interpreting goals for individual students based on their Individual Education Plans. In doing so, she could identify the individual needs of each child. She implemented teaching and learning around target goals and was explicit in setting out and achieving these goals throughout a session.
Vanessa developed and taught lessons that were engaging and she facilitated learning goals to meet the needs of the individual child. She took the initiative of assessing the target child using the Auditory Skills Placement Test which was remarkable given the sometimes difficult behaviour he presents with. She then used the results from the test to plan and implement goals for the child based specifically on the results from the test.

Please provide a comment relating to the student’s ability to demonstrate application of theory into practice:

Vanessa demonstrated that she was dedicated to the effective teaching and learning of children with hearing loss. She engaged in professional conversation with me at the end of each session and I witnessed her reflect on this advice through our conversations. From these conversations, it was obvious that she adjusted and adapted future lessons where necessary.
Vanessa displayed a friendly and approachable manner throughout the practicum. She held conversations with teachers, parents and other professionals making recommendations and discussions around adjustments made for children with a hearing loss.

Final Summary Statement – Student’s overall performance during this practicum:

Vanessa displayed various communication skills throughout her lessons. She displayed a good knowledge of oral strategies including good use of intonation through acoustic highlighting which assisted in the students’ perception and production of speech. She ensured a suitable listening environment based on the individual need of the child which in most cases was a separate room with minimal background noise. Throughout her lessons, I witnessed Vanessa adjust the length of utterances and phrases based on the need of each individual child. In closed set listening she used pitch variation and rhythm, clear enunciation and gave enough wait time for the child to respond.
She also displayed a basic knowledge and use of Auslan. She demonstrated knowledge of Auslan, with correct use of handshapes and gesture as well as facial expressions to convey meaning. It was pleasing to see that she had some knowledge of deaf culture and has a desire to pursue Auslan in her further professional development.
Vanessa has developed a good knowledge of the students with Hearing Loss, she has incorporated inclusive practices into lessons where I witnessed her making suitable adjustments to meet the learning needs of the individual student. I witnessed Vanessa working professionally within schools with other teachers and also witnessed her uphold her professionalism in less formal conversation with parents and caregivers. Throughout the practicum she has continually evaluated and modified her teaching, making use of exemplary resources to engage students.
