Ebony has demonstrated an excellent ability to engaged the students and develop a rapport with them. Her planning and delivery of sessions was thorough, engaging and warm. In the 5 sessions Ebony worked on comparing and contrasting the novel WONDER to the movie. She chose 2 students but her main focus and goal setting was for one year 6 student. She asked stimulating questions that required the student to really think deeply. The student had to demonstrate ways the main character in both the text and the movie were similar to her. For example they are both deaf or going to new schools. These areas are goals in the student's individual learning plan.
Ebony was very aware when talking to the student to sit on her aided side and to gain her attention before speaking. She demonstrated excellent skills in clarifying and making sure the student knew exactly what the task was. The student felt confident and comfortable to ask for support when needed.
It was pleasing to observe Ebony trying to improve her AUSLAN skills during her time at Eastwood.

When working with students Ebony was aware she needed to check their equipment was on and work and she was seated in the best position for them to gain access to all information presented. At a Year 6 level this is largely the responsibility of the students. They are independent when checking aids, must make sure the class teacher has the Roger Touchscreen and they are sitting in the best position for learning.

Although only a 5 day practicum Ebony attended our staff meeting, did yard duty and was involved in our end of year deaf facility production rehearsals. She was able to visit other classes with hearing impaired students during this time and had the opportunity to ask questions.
Ebony was keen to ask questions about all the HI students and the approach taken by our facility in integrating out students into the regular classroom with the support of the Teachers of the Deaf.
It has been a pleasure to have Ebony at Eastwood Primary School and Deaf Facility. She is a very keen student and is always ready to participate in all school activities.
She has a caring and friendly manner with all students. The student who worked closely with Ebony enjoyed her time and was engaged and challenged in her thinking during sessions. The end result was the student having an excellent understanding of the text and movie WONDER. Discussions in finding the similarities and differences was thoughtful and encouraging. The student was able to make connections between the main character and herself and her final poster and precept were excellent.
Ebony's knowledge of the varied needs of deaf students is on going but she demonstrated the skills needed to become an outstanding Teacher of the Deaf.
I wish her every success for her future and thank her for her work and commitment over the last week.
Do you consider that the Student is at risk of failing to achieve “Graduate level” by the end of their overall Practicum experience? No
