Megan was able to take goals from the students ‘ IHP in the areas of listening, language – semantics, syntax and pragmatics and plan engaging lessons that challenged the students. From Megan's observations during the first session she would also then include targets in the following lessons and planned to meet the areas of need she noticed.

Megan tested bilateral implants at the beginning of each session. Megan learnt how to use the mini mic and would identify if it wasn’t on from the blue light on the CI and reminded the student to turn it on. We discussed using the mini mic with smart board and other classroom technology.
Megan was aware when the student wouldn’t be able to hear and used the mini mic (with cosmo the robot). Adjustments were made when Megan realised the student had trouble hearing the two way radio she may adjustments to the activity.
Megan was interested in the lapel mic and dragon professional voice recognition software.

Megan was able to take new information about theory of mind and associated vocabulary knowledge and include this information in her plan for her focus student. She was also able to apply her knowledge of syntax and semantics in planning a specific activity that was inclusive of listening, literacy, comprehension, retelling, making inferences, vocabulary (synonyms) and theory of mind.
Megan is a confident teacher. She developed a friendly rapport with students. She used the students' area of interest to motivate them and to plan for individual needs. She used humour and was calm in her demeanour when dealing with behaviour management.
She had detailed and thoughtful planning and well prepared resources with both age groups. She made sure she covered each of listening, language and speech in her planning.
She was able to challenge the students while providing appropriate adjustments so they could experience both success and a sense of achievement.
Megan's focus student was late primary aged and she was very comfortable and obviously competent in teaching students of this age. She also completed on session with a prior to school age student. The skills required to work with this age group take time and practice to develop. I recommend that Megan's next focus student be a prior to school aged student so that she has more exposure and time to work with this age group.
In this prac Megan did not have the opportunity to discuss speech development, strategies and activities at length. As we are hosting her next prac, we will address this with her.
Megan is a creative and dedicated teacher. We are excited to be hosting her again for her prac next term. She will be an asset to any service she works with.
Do you consider that the Student is at risk of failing to achieve “Graduate level” by the end of their overall Practicum experience? No
