Naomi was linking strongly to the schools planning documents and individual IEPs (PLPs in Vic) and preparing students for topics that will be undertaken in the class over the next 2 weeks. The students thoroughly enjoyed the classes - the HoH student worked with a little group.
The other Program was adjusted as she went particularly in relation to a self esteem program. Students loved the sessions and want more.
The student in the self esteem class was able to say publicly she wears hearing aids. This was a massive win for Naomi.
Most students were communicating in an auditory verbal manner and Naomi was an active listener with the young cochlear student.

Naomi has worked in a school that over the last 5 years has had approximately 6 deaf children pass through the school. Naomi as the Learner Diversity co-ordinator has earned trust with the children and they will speak to her if they have an issue with their hearing aids., On the day working with MB her hearing aid was annoying her as it had a new mould. Naomi was able to speak to her re the hearing aid and think of some trouble shooting ideas to make MB more comfortable. Naomi was very aware of social interactions for all the children - so a great inclusion model. Naomi met with one parent over the time and developed a good rapport with this parent.. The students always felt safe in her sessions and looked forward to the sessions occurring again. (there's a lot of talk about homophones in that school with that group!) Naomi was happy to ask questions re the technology being used and acted upon the information.

Naomi was certainly able to prove competency and referred often to her studies to ask questions re the students. The classroom teachers at all schools were happy to communicate with her with regard to classroom practise. In an individual session Naomi moved rooms at one stage to allow a quieter space for the session which was great. She was very aware of where the students were losing concentration and appreciated little kids with hearing losses may need to create some downtime in their day - Naomi was aware of this and gentle around this issue and then was able to direct the student back to the given task.
Naomi was always thoroughly prepared and very flexible with her programs. She was able to be contingent with the programs depending on the energy level of the children. MB particularly had a big drive for a family reason the night before one session and was extremely tired. Naomi adjusted this appropriately while also successfully allowing MB to complete the session.
Naomi was always on time even when we had to drive quite big distances to arrive at the school location, We could not drive together as we come from quite different locations as occurs in the country. Naomi was able to explain to staff about hearing technology when required.
Do you consider that the Student is at risk of failing to achieve “Graduate level” by the end of their overall Practicum experience? No
