Kristina demonstrated her ability to target IEP goals in her individual sessions with children with hearing impairment in a skillful manner. She made accurate written notes and observations of student progress toward goals and was able to consolidate skills in subsequent sessions. For example, when working with a deaf student with additional learning needs, Kristina planned a number of excellent sessions focusing on tense markers, based on the student's IEP goals. In subsequent sessions, Kristina reinforced the content covered and built on her previous sessions. Based on close reading of the student's Language Assessment recommendations, Kristina recognised the need to use visual supports and familiar resources, such as the student's calendar, to scaffold learning. This enabled the deaf student to experience success and build on her understanding of an abstract concept. Kristina was skillful at using questioning and observations to evaluate student progress during sessions and to plan for future sessions.

Kristina skillfully monitored the use and function of all hearing devices during her practicum. She demonstrated her understanding of a range of hearing devices including cochlear implants, hearing aids and Roger Inspiro/Roger Touchscreens. Kristina started each individual session with the Ling Sound Check to ensure students were accessing all speech sounds. When devices were not working, Kristina was able to quickly and professionally trouble shoot, maintaining a calm and composed demeanour. Kristina demonstrated her ability to quickly build rapport with students and to encourage self-advocacy and independent management of hearing devices in a gentle and supportive manner.

Kristina demonstrated a solid theoretical understanding of working with deaf students to develop listening and spoken language skills. Kristina was able to apply her knowledge and experience from previous placements and her current work with deaf students at the Cora Barclay Centre, demonstrating strong and effective teaching pedagogy. Kristina was reflective of her sessions and adapted her teaching practice according to the learning needs and styles of the different students.
Kristina excelled during her practicum at Pembroke School. She demonstrated advanced professional skills as a Teacher of the Deaf, quickly developing positive relationships with students and planning meaningful, creative and engaging lessons targeting individual learning goals. Kristina worked collaboratively with all staff while on her practicum and it was a pleasure to supervise her. She was keen to enhance her knowledge and to share her own background experience, resources and teaching strategies. I couldn't recommend Kristina more highly - well done!
