Osanne was able to quickly integrate information from student files and in situ observation of the students to formulate relevant and sophisticated goals and plans and implemented them with a high degree of professionalism and a a calm, kind but firm manner. She actively sought opportunities to discuss various aspects of the students' hearing loss and this resulted in some valuable professional learning for me too!

Osanne has a good understanding of the range of assistive technologies the students use in the classroom and was aware of the corect way to use them to their optimal advantage. During the course of her practicum she dealt with hearing aids, cochlear implants, sound field systems and the interactive whiteboard to support learning.

Osanne has a thorough theoretical knowledge in the field of Deaf or Hard of Hearing Education. She was very aware of using strategies garnered from this theoretical knowledge in her practice to support and enhance both student engagement and learning. This ability to transfer theory to practice went from strength to strength during the course of the practicum.
Osanne completed a highly successful practicum. Her success began with her rapid understanding of where the students were 'at' both through thorough study of their files and observation of their classroom behaviours and language. This understanding of prior knowledge and areas of need was then used to produce intricate and insightful plans that were always delivered to me prior to the lesson and implemented in a confident and calm way. The students responded to her pleasant manner and were engaged and on task in her lessons. Osanne quickly became part of the life of the Hearinng Support Unit and established good relationships with the staff and students in the unit. Osanne actively sought opportunities for observationn of the students in the different spheres of which they are involved in the school and gained useful knowledge and skills from these observations as well as the challenges the students in the unit face, particularly in mainstream classes. Osanne's practicum coincided with the end of one academic year and the beginning of another, due to the way our compressed HSC is structured and was flexible and good humoured about fitting in her practicum requirement with the many different demands inherent at this time of the year. Osanne attended extra curricular activities such as sport, Breakfast Club and playground duty and accompanied me on cover lessons in the autism support unit in order to observe the corporate life of the school. Osanne always eagerly sought feedback on her lessons and individual sessions and it was obvious to see her use these suggestions and strategies in subsequent lessons. She used multi-modal communication to support both the oral students and other students who rely on communication augmented with AUSLAN by her fluent signing integrated with her her oral presentation. I am pleased to say that Osannne was a valued member of our staff for the time she was with us and my only regret was that she was not able to say longer. A stellar effort that should be applauded.
Do you consider that the Student is at risk of failing to achieve “Graduate level” by the end of their overall Practicum experience? No
