During her practicum, Ms Deana Saleh was proactive in seeking information to design effective student profiles. These profiles led the development of individual learning sequences for her focus students. Ms Saleh questioned and referred to documented student histories including audiology assessments and learning records. She demonstrated knowledge of assessment tools that had been implemented and was able to read and interpret the data provided. Ms Saleh designed a sequence of lesson goals based on assessment data and previous lessons. The chosen goals were age and stage appropriate, however, some were over-ambitious given the limited timeframe. The goals utilised SMART parameters for example the child will be able to identify initial sounds in words, during listening programs, with 80% accuracy. To further support her SMART goals, Ms Saleh could link the goals to specific activities in her learning program to reinforce the purpose of the lesson.

During the practicum, Ms Saleh demonstrated a strong, comprehensive knowledge of assistive technology. She was directly observed utilising student's FM / WCD systems during lessons, managing and encouraging hearing aid compliance, implementing and recording results from the Ling 7 Sounds Test in lessons and implementing supportive classroom routines and adjustments for both cochlear and hearing aid users. I am confident in Ms Saleh's ability to successfully manage assistive technology for learners who are hearing impaired.

During the practicum, Ms Saleh referred to her focus goals and her own professional development goals to improve her knowledge and practice. She was attentive to feedback from her supervisor and used this to modify her learning programs. Ms Saleh communicated with other staff and offered thoughts and suggestions during discussions.
Ms Saleh was flexible and accommodating during her practicum, creating lesson plans at short notice due to changes in her schedule. She was proactive in providing constructive feedback to students during lessons, which were done in a way that did not draw undue attention to a child's error and created a supportive learning environment where the student felt comfortable when completing tasks.
Ms Saleh applied techniques that supported the student's knowledge and understanding of the lesson goals. The lessons involved an orientation where the goal for activities was stated to the student, vocabulary was labelled and defined and literal questions were asked to make connections with the language and student's own personal experience.
Ms Saleh should be commended for the level of preparation she placed into each lesson and how thoughtful she was in her selection and preparation of resources. I wish her well with the rest of her studies.
