On his practicum Jerome demonstrated an understanding of what an IEP is. He used current information from the students profile and linked it to his lessons plans. He established two focus area of need and applied them in his teaching lessons effectively. Jerome provided smart goals for the student to achieve. During our discussions, Jerome provided further strategies based on his evaluation of the lesson.

During his professional experience Jerome had the opportunity to work with children’s hearing aids and Roger FM devices. Whilst with the team Jerome learned how to troubleshoot a FM for a year 1 student, by Judging the students change in behaviour to indicate whether hearing aid is working or not. Jerome used two Roger FM systems; the Touchscreen and mini mic and is able to inform classroom teachers how to troubleshoot effectively. Jerome demonstrated his skills in using assistive technology in the classroom by linking the Rodger FM to the IWB. This provided full access to sound for the student.

Jerome has excellent awareness of the terminology to describe particular types of hearing loss. He has a strong working knowledge of how hearing impairment relates in the area of Asperger’s Syndrome. Jerome also has a good grasp of recent research into Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD) and Cochlear Implant technology, which will benefit him greatly in his future practice.
Jerome uses his theoretical knowledge to inform his teaching practice. He has a good spoken manner and can deliver information to classroom teachers in a way which doesn’t come across as overwhelming.
Jerome was able to observe students that have two modes of communication. He observed teachers who were fluent AUSLAN users and teachers who have the passion for the Auditory Verbal method. Over the course of this practicum Jerome worked with a number of students from preschool to year 12. He completed his program with a year 1 focus student and was able to use current knowledge and understanding of research. Jerome shared the current knowledge and research with a number of my staff who have been teachers for a long time. This valuable knowledge was a good resource for the team.
Jerome was a valuable asset to our team during his practicum. He was able to provide up to date knowledge of current research and I appreciated his strong work ethics. Jerome would be an excellent teacher for any team once he completes his studies. He was thorough in his lesson plans and was able to provide an effective feedback to my staff during the observation sessions. He has had the opportunity to teach students in which he previously had limited experience with. He can quickly establish rapport with new students and embraces difficult teaching challenges. Jerome is personable and likes establishing new professional relationships with colleagues. He is well organised and conducts himself professionally. We would like to wish Jerome lots of success in his teaching career and look forward to collaborating with him in the future.
