Michael's lessons were planned with goals that were effectively linked to the students' own learning goals. He recorded data in relation to the students' achievement of goals and discussed specific examples directly with me after each of his lessons. His goals were designed to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely which resulted in his lessons being well focused towards the students' learning needs.

Michael demonstrated experience with the use of hearing devices and FMs and was able to effectively manage such technology which promoted better listening outcomes for all of the students within the class. When issues with FMs arose, he was able to quickly learn how to troubleshoot the issue and ensure the device was functioning properly again.

Michael demonstrates strong knowledge of issues related to teaching and learning for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. He clearly reflected on his professional learning from his studies when planning lessons and provide effective teaching and learning. He was able to take on feedback from myself in relation to specific lessons to improve his teaching practice. He worked with a variety of staff throughout the school during mainstream integration activities. He supported the students and other staff effectively and used his specialist knowledge and experience to ensure suitable adjustments were being provided during these times. He was able to identify appropriate areas for improvement after reviewing his digital session, including providing the student more feedback in relation to the articulation goals being focused on.
Michael has been a very professional and helpful practicum student. He has excellent communication skills and great vocal control which he demonstrates continually. He has a supportive manner with students and can also provide firm directions when needed in a manner that remains calm. Michael was very thoughtful in all of his lesson planning and considered the learning goals and learning needs of each of the students he worked with. He stepped outside of his comfort zone and used the basic Auslan skills that he has in order to effectively support our students whose main language is Auslan. Michael is an effective listener and attended to our professional discussions well. He has a strong knowledge of teaching students who are deaf or hard of hearing and, as a trained special educator already, he demonstrates a strong ability to plan adjustments to learning to meet the other learning needs that students have. I have no doubt that Michael will become an excellent Teacher of the Deaf when he finishes his studies.
Do you consider that the Student is at risk of failing to achieve “Graduate level” by the end of their overall Practicum experience? No
